NOTE: From season
1974-75 on, UEFA creates a country ranking in order to assign a specific number
of berths in UEFA Cup (C3) to the different federations, from 4 to 1, according
to the progress of their teams in European competitions. An average is calculated based on the points
earned by all the teams belonging to a country (2 p. for a victory, 1 p. for a
draw, plus 1 bonus p. for reaching 1/4 Finals, 1/2 Finals, and Final). The sum of the averages obtained during a
5-year period yields the ranking of a country, which determines the assignment
of berths in C3 for the second season after the one that closes this period (so
that all federations know, at the beginning of a League championship, how many
teams they're allowed in C3 for the next season). Therefore, from 1980-81 season on, this country ranking
applies. As happens in the other two
European competitions, the title holder in C3 is allowed to participate in next
year's competition in case it didn't qualify via domestic League.
* Nottingham Forest FC participates in Champions Cup (C1) as the title
holder.
** Eintracht Frankfurt participates in UEFA Cup (C3) as the title
holder.
*** Valencia CF participates in Cup Winners' Cup (C2) as the title holder.
