• Teams are listed with their official names in their original language (or a literal transcription in the case of characters other than the Roman alphabet).
• The numbers above stand for the year when a competition final is played (e.g.: 83 = season 1982-83). In the Intertoto Cup (IC), they represent the very year of this tournament (e.g.: 98 = summer 1998 / season 1998-99).
• Starting in season 1996-97, the losers in some qualifying rounds of Champions League (C1) are given a "wild card" to participate in UEFA Cup (C3), and they're consequently listed with two participations during the same season. The same applies to the Intertoto Cup champions from season 1995-96 on, which have the right to participate in the UEFA Cup competition of that year.
• Cup Winners' Cup (C2) disappears in 1999 after merging with UEFA Cup.
