rounds on a home and away basis. The aggregate score of both games decides
the winner.

Ties are resolved with a third
game at a neutral venue (or a participant's court, if so agreed). Should the tie hold after regulation and

En un encuentro
deslucido por el barro, el CF Barcelona ha obtenido
un valioso empate a cero en el campo del Birmingham
City FC en la ida de la final de la Copa de Ferias.
El Barça, que venía de jugar 48 horas antes
frente al Betis en Sevilla, acusó el cansancio
y el mal estado del terreno de juego. Pese a todo,
se pudo ver claramente la enorme diferencia de
calidad entre uno y otro equipo, como lo demuestra
el hecho de que al final del partido los aficionados
ingleses se lanzaran al campo para festejar el
empate del Birmingham City como si hubiera sido
una victoria. Sin duda, el Barça ya contaba
con una gran reputación en las Islas Británicas
tras haber eliminado brillantemente hace unas
semanas al Wolverhampton Wanderers en la Copa
de Europa. El partido en sí fue un duelo eminentemente defensivo en el que el juego de ataque brilló por su ausencia y en el que no hubo mayor emoción que la que propiciaba el marcador. Durante la primera mitad el Barcelona buscó más y mejor la portería inglesa, aunque el embarrado terreno favorecía el juego defensivo de los ingleses. Los azulgrana se dedicaban a realizar pases en corto y acompañar el balón en lugar de buscar el desplazamiento en largo, lo que les supuso un enorme desgaste físico. Los porteros de ambos equipos no tuvieron apenas trabajo, exceptuando los balones que les llegaban colgados o retrasados por sus propios compañeros, por lo que tan sólo algún córner o fallo causado por el estado del terreno de juego aportó cierta emoción al partido. |

El CF Barcelona
ha revalidado su título de campeón de la Copa
de Ferias al derrotar al Birmingham City en un
encuentro sin demasiadas complicaciones. Muy pronto,
a los cuatro minutos, se adelantó el Barça
al cabecear Eulogio Martínez un saque de esquina
lanzado por Coll. Apenas tres minutos más tarde
Czibor lograría el 2-0 que comenzaba a dejar encarrilado
el partido. El marcaje por zonas del Birmingham
City, tan característico del fútbol británico,
favorecía claramente el lucimiento del Barcelona,
en especial del húngaro Zoltán Czibor, que desde
su posición de extremo desbordaba una y otra vez
a la defensa inglesa. Kubala jugaba algo retrasado
para dirigir el juego con su estilo habitual.
Por su parte, los jugadores del Birmingham City
intentaron nivelar la diferencia de calidad con
una brega constante en el centro del campo hasta
imponerse en este terreno al Barcelona. Con ello
y con la aportación del interior Gordon, el mejor
jugador de la delantera inglesa, comenzaron a
inquietar la portería de Ramallets, que se vio
obligado a realizar una serie de excelentes intervenciones.
El tercer gol azulgrana a poco de reanudarse la
segunda mitad vino a sentenciar el partido. Los
ingleses no se desanimaron y siguieron intentando
reducir distancias, como en un disparo de Hooper
al larguero, aunque a medida que se acercaba el
final del partido fueron decayendo en su ánimo. |
