· Two best American teams in the World Championship: Argentina, USA.

· Best African team in the World Championship: Nigeria.

· The remaining 4 berths are allocated after four Pre-Olympic Tournaments gathering the 16 best qualified teams in the World Championship (other than the teams above) from the five FIBA continental zones and eight more “wild cards” (two from each confederation): FIBA Europe (Serbia, Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Italy, Greece, Russia, Germany, Turkey, Slovenia, Croatia), FIBA Americas (Brazil, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Canada, Mexico, Uruguay), FIBA Africa (Tunisia, Senegal, Angola) and FIBA Asia/Oceania (Philippines, China, South Korea).
