COMPETITION SYSTEM

· 25 teams (domestic Cup champions plus title holder) playing knock-out rounds on a home and away basis. The aggregate score of both games decides the winner.

· The eight teams qualified after the 1/8 Final round enter a 1/4 Final stage, divided into two groups of four playing a round-robin. The final standing is based on individual wins and defeats. In case of a tie between two or more teams after this group stage, the following criteria is used to decide the final standing: 1) one-to-one games between the teams; 2) basket average; 3) individual wins and defeats.

· The group winners and runners-up after the 1/4 Final stage qualify for a 1/2 Final knock-out round (X-pairings). The final is played at a predetermined venue.

RESUMEN (SUMMARY) La Forst Cantú conquistó la Recopa de Europa al derrotar por un solo punto (87-86) al Radnički de Belgrado tras una final igualada hasta el último segundo, a pesar de que los italianos partían como claros favoritos al título. El conjunto canturino llevó el mando en el marcador desde el inicio del partido, con una superioridad apoyada en el excelente porcentaje anotador de Recalcati y la potencia reboteadora de Della Fiori, toda vez que Wingo y Lienhard mantenían una equilibrada pugna con sus pares Damjanović y Marović. El gran duelo de bases entre Marzorati y Jarić se decantó a favor del yugoslavo, que ofreció un auténtico recital de tiros desde todos los ángulos y posiciones. Ante tan exhibición, la Forst cambió a defensa en zona para presionar a Jarić entre Marzorati y Recalcati, aunque esto dejó más campo de maniobra a Marović. De esta forma se llegó al descanso con ligera ventaja para los de Cantú (46-40). En la segunda parte decreció el poderío italiano. Lienhard y Wingo se mostraban poco participativos en el juego de su equipo, y tan sólo Recalcati y Della Fiori seguían firmes y seguros. El Radnički se aprovechó de esta situación para equilibrar el marcador mediado el segundo período (67-66), y desde ese instante hasta el final se mantuvo un tira y afloja constante, con ventajas de entre uno y tres puntos a favor de los italianos. De esta forma se llegó al último minuto, en el que los jugadores de la Forst se dedicaron a congelar el balón ante la desesperada presión de los yugoslavos, ya sin su estrella Jarić en el campo, eliminado por personales.
