RESUMEN (SUMMARY)

Tras una salida fulgurante del Ignis (8-4), el partido entró en una fase de igualdad durante toda la primera mitad, aunque casi siempre con ventajas italianas (8-8, 19-16, 27-25, 33-29 y 36-34 al descanso). En la segunda mitad, empujados por un público infatigable, los varesinos llegaron a acumular una ventaja importante (60-46, 71-54), aunque el Maccabi logró recortar diferencias hasta dejar el marcador final en un 77-67 que le concede esperanzas de cara al partido de vuelta en Tel Aviv.

RESUMEN (SUMMARY)

El Ignis de Varese se ha proclamado campeón de la primera edición de la Recopa de Europa pese a caer derrotado en el partido de vuelta celebrado en Tel Aviv (68-67), puesto que en la ida había logrado una victoria por diez puntos de diferencia ante el Maccabi (77-67). En el descanso, el cuadro macabeo ganaba por 35-30, lo que hizo soñar a los aficionados locales con la remontada. Sin embargo, los italianos consiguieron reducir diferencias en la segunda mitad hasta lograr empatar a 53 a siete minutos del final. A falta de veinte segundos, el Ignis ganaba de un punto (66-67), pero una postrera canasta del Maccabi sirvió al equipo israelí para hacerse con la victoria en este partido (enturbiada, sin embargo, por el constante lanzamiento de botellas de plástico a la pista por parte de los aficionados locales).
