·          25 teams (domestic champions plus title holder) playing knock-out rounds on a home and away basis. The aggregate score of both games decides the winner.

·          Ties after two legs are resolved with a third game at a neutral venue (or a participant’s court, if so agreed).

RESUMEN (SUMMARY)

Derrota mínima del Real Madrid ante un CSKA que no demostró la superioridad exhibida en la misma final de hace dos temporadas. El conjunto blanco desaprovechó una magnífica ocasión para obtener la victoria en Moscú por estar más pendiente del marcador global que del partido en sí. La fase más peligrosa se produjo en el minuto 13, cuando el CSKA logró su máxima ventaja (34-21). Tras la reacción del Real Madrid, las diferencias volvieron a reducirse en el minuto 18 (44-40), aunque la sustitución de Sevillano por Descartín y un nuevo tirón ruso dejó el marcador en 48-40 al descanso. En la segunda mitad mejoró el juego del Real Madrid, y tras las sucesivas eliminaciones de Lipso y Korneev tuvo su gran ocasión para hacerse con la victoria. Sin embargo, el juego contemporizador y lento de los madridistas les hizo conformarse con una derrota mínima que les hace albergar ilusiones de cara al partido de vuelta.

RESUMEN (SUMMARY)

La desventaja de 7 puntos (88-81) que el Real Madrid se trajo de Moscú fue rebasada por el doble de margen en el inexpugnable Frontón “Fiesta Alegre”. Los blancos emplearon una estrategia defensiva acertada, con flotación sobre el pivote rival dejando que el base del CSKA, Alachachian, jugara sin oposición fuera de la zona. Las prestaciones del jugador armenio no fueron las de hace un par de años, ya que estuvo muy lento y fatal en el tiro exterior. El equipo soviético careció de ideas y recursos para frenar al Real Madrid. Vol’nov, su figura y gran artífice del triunfo en Moscú, fue maniatado y quedó capidisminuido por las personales. Su salida del campo al cometer la cuarta falta personal en el minuto 18 supuso que el equipo blanco, que en ese momento perdía por dos puntos, se escapara en el marcador de la mano de Emiliano, de forma que al descanso el Real Madrid ya había igualado la eliminatoria (36-29). En el segundo tiempo Vol’nov volvió a salir a la cancha, pero pronto le cayó la quinta personal, con lo que su equipo enterró todas sus opciones.
