·          23 teams (domestic champions plus title holder) playing knock-out rounds on a home and away basis. The aggregate score of both games decides the winner.

·          Ties after two legs are resolved with a third game at a neutral venue (or a participant’s court, if so agreed).

RESUMEN (SUMMARY)

El Real Madrid afrontará la vuelta de la final de la Copa de Europa con once puntos de desventaja y las lesiones de Luyk y Sevillano, un “mal menor” después de capear el temporal al que le sometió el Spartak de Brno en la ida. Tras un sensacional inicio del partido del equipo blanco, en el que llegó a disponer de una máxima ventaja de siete puntos (16-23), el conjunto checoslovaco logró igualar el marcador (24-24, min. 8), y a partir de ese momento el choque entró en una fase de gran igualdad. En el minuto 12, Sevillano tuvo que retirarse de la pista debido a una lesión en el pie, pese a lo cual el Real Madrid logró mantener el tipo y pudo llegar al descanso con un marcador apretado (54-53).

 

Sin embargo, un bache madridista al comienzo de la segunda mitad, propiciado por la salida en tromba del Spartak y las rotaciones de jugadores para evitar la acumulación de personales, situó el marcador en un peligroso 84-64 a favor del conjunto local (min. 25). Afortunadamente para el Real Madrid, en esos momentos críticos se produjo la eliminación por cinco faltas personales del gigantón Konečný, y más tarde la de Jan Bobrovský, por lo que los blancos pudieron reaccionar a tiempo y acortar las diferencias (101-93). Luego vinieron la lesión de Luyk y las sucesivas eliminaciones de Sáinz, Descartín y Hanson, lo que hizo que el Real Madrid tuviera que jugar los últimos minutos con sólo dos de sus titulares, Emiliano y Burgess, y los reservas Palmero, Durand y Monsalve, lo que dejó el marcador final en un peligroso 110-99 para el Spartak.

RESUMEN (SUMMARY)

Para remontar los once puntos de desventaja que cedió en el partido de ida, el Real Madrid debió luchar con uñas y dientes en la vuelta, jugada en el frontón “Fiesta Alegre” en medio de un electrizante ambiente. Los checoslovacos se aprovecharon del inicial nerviosismo madridista para dominar de entrada (2-6) aunque, tras conseguir empatar el partido, el Real Madrid se fue despegando en el marcador (19-12; 27-18). En el tramo final de la primera parte, el Spartak, de la mano de unos inspiradísimos Konvička y Pištělák, logró acortar distancias peligrosamente hasta irse a los vestuarios con una mínima desventaja de cuatro puntos (37-33). La final seguía en el alero y el nerviosismo se apoderaba de todos los asistentes al frontón de la calle Valenzuela.

 

En la segunda mitad, el panorama cambio por completo. El cinco inicial del Real Madrid (Sáinz, Sevillano, Emiliano, Luyk y Burgess) se lanzó desde el primer minuto a un irresistible juego de despliegues ofensivos y las diferencias se dispararon. El Spartak logró aguantar el tipo como pudo, pero con 42-37 en el marcador caía eliminado Jan Bobrovský, uno de sus mejores jugadores. Poco después, con 56-40, el eliminado era su gigante Konečný. Ya sin oposición, los madridistas volaron hacia el triunfo final, y llegaron a alcanzar una máxima diferencia de 25 puntos (68-43).
