TOP SCORER: Wayne Hightower (27)

[Incidents: With only two seconds to go and the score tied at 80 points, Real Madrid’s head coach, Pedro Ferrándiz, called for a time-out and decided a curious play to avoid an overtime which could have been dramatic for his team (with Sevillano and Morrison already fouled out, Hightower injured, Ignis playing their best basket, and a very negative refereeing): with possession for Real Madrid, Lluís inbounded the ball from the baseline to Alocén, and the center made an own basket to establish the definitive 82-80. Since FIBA regulations didn't account for this circumstance at that time, the referees called the end of the game with that final score, to the surprise of everyone in the court (the initial joy of the Italian fans turned into anger when they realized Real Madrid’s “trick”). Finally, Alocén’s own basket was credited to the Italian captain, Gavagnin. After this “unsportsmanlike” incident (which was neither the first nor the last in European competitions), and only some years later, FIBA decided to supress overtimes in two-legged rounds to avoid situations like this, and ties were accepted as the final score of a game.]
