Basketball Champions League 2021-22
(From 13-09-2021 to 8-05-2022)
COMPETITION SYSTEM
· 52 teams from countries affiliated to FIBA Europe are eligible to participate in the competition. · 24 teams enter a Qualifying Stage, divided into three rounds (quarterfinals, semifinals and finals) played as a single game in four venues. · The 4 winners after the Qualifying Stage join another 28 teams in a Regular Season, divided into eight groups of four teams each playing a round-robin. · Runners-up and third-qualified teams in each Regular Season group access the Play-Ins, knock-out round played as a best of 3 games match-up. · The eight winners of the Play-Ins and the eight group winners from the Regular Season access the Round of 16, with four groups of four teams each playing a round-robin. · The group winners and runners-up after the Round of 16 access the 1/4 Finals (best of 3 series). · The four winners of the 1/4 Finals qualify for the Final Stage (Final Four), played at a predetermined venue. |

RESUMEN (SUMMARY) El Lenovo Tenerife conquistó su segunda Liga de Campeones al derrotar en la final de Bilbao a la gran revelación de la temporada, el Baxi Manresa, de la mano de un magistral Marcelinho Huertas, autor de 13 puntos y 14 asistencias (dos más que todos sus rivales juntos) y justamente nombrado MVP de la Fase Final. Los catalanes hicieron un gran partido, pero sucumbieron ante el asombroso acierto de los canarios, que rozaron la perfección ofensiva: 27/37 en tiros de dos, 13/24 en triples y 26 asistencias. Junto con el veterano base brasileño Marcelinho Huertas, otras piezas destacadas en el triunfo tiñerfeño fueron el escolta finlandés Sasu Salin (autor de 10 de los primeros 16 puntos de su equipo), el pívot georgiano Giorgi Shermadini (cuya sociedad con Marcelinho Huertas es ilimitada), el ala-pívot canadiense Kyle Wiltjer (que demostró su polivalencia, tanto en la pintura como en el perímetro exterior), el alero canadiense Aaron Doornekamp (decisivo para romper el partido a base de triples en el tercer cuarto) y por supuesto el entrenador bilbaíno Txus Vidorreta (profeta en su tierra). El Manresa, que alcanzaba su primera final europea en sus 91 años de historia, poco pudo hacer ante los porcentajes estratosféricos de sus rivales, pese al trabajo infatigable del ala-pívot nigeriano Chima Moneke, nombrado MVP de la competición y autor de los primeros doce puntos de su equipo (con dos triples y otros tantos 2+1).
El primer cuarto de partido fue una oda al baloncesto ofensivo, con la mayor anotación parcial conjunta en una final de la Liga de Campeones (27-25), pese a las buenas defensas de ambos equipos, liderados por Salin (autor de 10 puntos, con 4/5 en tiros de campo) y Moneke (que evitó que el Lenovo Tenerife se despegara ya desde los primeros minutos). El festival ofensivo de ambos conjuntos continuó en el segundo cuarto, a cuya conclusión se llegó con leve ventaja manresana (49-50). El Lenovo Tenerife había mostrado más argumentos y un juego más coral, pero el Baxi Manresa se las había apañado para aguantar e incluso disfrutar de una corta ventaja de cuatro puntos (46-50, min. 20).
El partido se rompió por completo en el tercer cuarto. Los canarios, con un Marcelinho Huertas extraordinario en la dirección, entraron en un trance anotador incontenible: 33 puntos tras un parcial inicial de 20-6 (66-56, min. 26), incluidos siete triples (tres de Doornekamp, dos de Salin y uno de Wiltjer). Los manresanos no encontraron argumentos para contrarrestar el caudal ofensivo canario. Con cada acierto exterior aurinegro iba creciendo la diferencia, que llegó a los 15 a la conclusión del tercer cuarto (82-67). El Manresa, con Moneke apelando a la épica, lo intentó en el último periodo, pero Marcelinho Huertas dio un clinic de basket control y visión del juego para asegurar el segundo título europeo del CB Tenerife y el cuarto de un equipo español en las seis finales disputadas de la Liga de Campeones. El encuentro concluyó con un magnífico espectáculo en las gradas del Bilbao Arena, con ambas aficiones hermanadas y cantando el nombre del equipo rival. |
